Beat the spread of computer virsus
Computer users urged to be on guard for viruses

A COMPUTER expert is warning people in the Marsh and Ashford areas to be vigilant after discovering that the majority of his customers have no virus protection.
Andy Leaning, 40, managing director of Copperfield Technology, an IT solutions company based in Lydd, contacted Kentish Express after becoming concerned at the number of calls the firm was getting from homes and businesses with virus-related computer problems.
The company ran a survey on its website asking customers about their anti-virus protection and found 75 per cent of users had inadequate virus protection.
"Virus writers are no looking to cause damage but to steal information that they can mail off to people, mainly organized crime groups," said Mr Leaning, whose background is in Internet security.
He warned that keyloggers were able to trace every character types into a machine and use it to crack security codes, such as those used in online banking.
The online survey has been running since July 1 and has already received 350 hits.
Mr Leaning said the figures were significantly higher than the national average when compared with results of a survey published in a security publication SC Magazine in February last year which showed that a quarter of UK businesses had no protection.
"It indicates that the region is behind the rest of the UK in this vital aspect of technology," said Mr Leaning.
Mr Leaning is technical editor of the book, Mastering Network Security, and was formerly head lead security engineer for a UK top 100 ecommerce developer.
